The International Ostomy Association, an association of Regional Ostomy Associations, is committed to the improvement of the quality of life of Ostomates and those with related surgeries, worldwide.
It provides to its member associations, information and management guidelines, helps to form new to my associations, and advocates on all related matters and policies.
It is organized to grow and develop while remaining independent and financially viable.
We have reached the time of the year when many families are celebrating Christmas or Hanukah and/or are about to welcome and celebrate the 2012 New Year.
Wherever you are as this year closes and families come together for shorter or longer holiday breaks, I extend my very best wishes to you all.
I hope the 2012 New Year brings peace, good health and happiness to all of you.

WORLD OSTOMY DAY

The worldwide campaign is designed to raise awareness by highlighting to the general public and global community the challenges faced by Ostomates.
Many national ostomy associations are conducting public events to celebrate the day. We will promote advocacy to enhance public awareness of the vital work of ostomy associations and encourage fellow ostomates to realize that such associations exist to help them experience a better quality of life.

The International Ostomy Association IOA was established in August 28, 1970 when the World Work Committee came into existence at the annual UOA Conference that was held in Boston.
It was Mr. Archie Vinitsky in 1966, chairman of the UOA International Relations Committee, who sent 10 letters around the world to inquire about founding an international mutual aid organization of ostomates.
